Report: Some EU states call for cutting off Gazprombank from SWIFT

MOSCOW, Sep 26 (PRIME) -- Ireland, Poland and the Baltic states have proposed disconnecting four more Russian banks from the SWIFT messaging network, namely Gazprombank, Alfa-Bank, Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank, to tighten sanctions against the country, the Europa Press news agency reported late on September 23.

The countries also called for banning imports of diamonds and cigarettes from Russia, vetoing imports of products derived from liquefied petroleum gas and exploration and production of crude oil, natural gas and other fossil fuels with Russia, as well as banning cooperation in nuclear energy, the agency reported.

The proposal also includes banning provision of services by Russian insurers, the agency reported.

The proposal will be considered as part of a new package of E.U. sanctions against Russia later this week.
